a poem by Peter Menkin
The parade of the city and county people
and cars with chrome painted
tubes exhaust has been a singer in the first grant
Street – Parade of miles long.
An American evidence
history, 55 Chevy Station Wagon
rear lights
reaction as a flat nose.
Shelby Cobra carved
Cars coveted Hollywood
the center of Rolling Thunder
patrolled by local police
the final model quick search
vehicles with air intakes.
The girls are sitting near the man
in the bank, but
Ford Mustang ($ 20,000)
has buckets – thigh in the thigh,
cons shifter.
A race of beautiful sounds of the piston,
clouds of exhaust gases after dark
the sunset many walk, sit,
to call and industrial gawk
promises and freedom
Auto brings. Steel Sex paint
is a combination Hot June 1
night for the thrill of riding.
Call connection to drag and hit
adolescent attitudes and adults
moments with the families to listen
a social position
Brown 48 Plymouth coupe. What
Now, a party Company
as a community dance in Thunder
and success. Glory, excitement!
Summer Star Summer
Song of the parade of car colors
was for the show and courage.
and tomorrow night
in the regular roads and alleys.
It is an endless parade
Polished Pets favored
including the Chevrolet 409
wanders looking
A woody wagon or something soft.
We have fulfilled Century 21
and we are once again the parade.

This poem 2000, recently issued at the Academy of American Poets writers workshop received few comments I regret to say. But I love the work, and this is from the original version of almost eight years, when the parade of cars held in Novato, California (Marin County), north of San Francisco.
This note of another poet stood Writers Workshop for me:
I had an idea that not everyone knows about the parade of cars. It took place in Novato, California (45,000) people and fixing cars old men and women, even. They are excellent! So many people took to the streets of this popular event is a Fair Trade city.
Novato County Marin, north of San Francisco about 30 miles or so. I think we have the annual parade. Who, I went to stop the car, and was impressed by him and forget that there is something in the U.S. as "car culture". Thus the poem.
Notes on the photo: the Rev. Richard Helmer, rector of the Church Our Saviour, Mill Valley, California, United States took this photograph and gave him permission to use on my blog. The blog is essentially spiritual and poetry religious, and if the poem published today is chrome and steel parade, I thought Richard's father was the right choice, because it shows the flowers and chromium. Readers of this blog will have noticed that most of the photographs that accompany poetry shows a flower or flowers.
